Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause a mixture of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts or nodules. Getting acne is inevitable, however with decades of research it is possible for everyone to achieve clearer skin with treatment. Acne typically continues through the mid-twenties, but some people have acne that lasts a lifetime. Acne can cause lowered self-esteem, and depression. Severe acne can cause painful deep nodules and cysts which can lead to scarring that lasts a lifetime. Treating acne early, before it becomes severe, can prevent acne scarring and promote increased self-esteem.

Atopic Dermatitis / Eczema

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is a chronic, itchy, inflammatory skin condition. The cause is unknown, but genetic and environmental factors can worsen its severity. It is most commonly diagnosed in the first five years of life, but adults can be affected as well. The hallmark of atopic dermatitis/eczema is intense itching which leads to scratching. This scratching can cause skin infection, skin thickening, and makes it difficult for skin to retain moisture. Here at radiant dermatology, we combine medical and holistic treatment interventions to promote and repair skin barrier function to improve the quality of life for our patients and parents.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory inflammatory skin condition characterized by silvery scaly plaques. It most commonly affects the scalp, elbows and knees. It can develop at any age and can be mild, moderate or severe. It can be triggered by environmental factors such as infections and medication. If you have psoriasis and joint pain, you may have a condition called psoriatic arthritis (PsA). In your skin exam we evaluate the severity of the disease, assess for any joint involvement and utilize the Dermatology Quality of Life Index to understand how psoriasis affects your daily life and social/emotional health. At Radiant Dermatology we understand those suffering from psoriasis have concerns that are more than skin deep.

An annual total body skin exam (TBSE) can help find and prevent skin cancer. Regular check-ups with a healthcare professional, depending on your risk factors, are crucial for early detection and treatment of any potential skin cancer.

Preventive measures include examining your skin for any changes, such as new moles, growths, or changes in existing moles, which can detect skin cancer at an early stage. Wearing sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) to minimize exposure to harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and wearing sun protective clothing (hats, long sleeves, sunglasses) refer to measures taken to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer. Avoid tanning beds that emit UV radiation, and adopting a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, not smoking, and eating a healthy diet all contribute to overall skin health.
